I am looking for a voltage regulator circuit schematic for a motorcycle?
I am looking for a voltage regulator circuit schematic for a 82 GS650 motorcycle. I have looked at the schematics for the BMW that are easily found on the net but they are different then the one I am looking for. The BMW one has 2 wires coming from the stator coil. 1 wire is positive and the other is ground where as the one on the GS 650 has 3 wires coming from the stator. Any help would be great. Thanks
This is a standard 3 wire stator - regulator circuit. All 3 wires are hot AC. If you have a charging problem it is more likely the stator is bad. The regulator is usually a potted unit, and you could probably use another off a similar Japanese bike. Disconnect the wires from the regulator to the stator, with the bike running(must have a good battery).
Measure the votage(AC) between each of the three legs of the stator.
The voltage must be exactly the same(+/- 0.1v) or you have a bad stator. You can check the resistance between the legs not running, but a hot test is better.
