Connect Your TV to Your Computer

Most TVs nowadays can connect to Computers/Laptops out of the box using a range of connections like VGA/RGB,DVI,HDMI,S-video or RCA. The VGA connection is probably going to be the easiest to connect because it is the same as your Computer monitor. If you only have a laptop it is the lead you use to connect an external monitor. If your TV does not have either VGA or DVI then it maybe a little more difficult. If your Computer has TV out then it should have S-video or RCA so you are back in business. HDMI is another way to connect, but your TV must be HDMI compatible.

You will need to set the TV input to receive your PC output signal. It should be easy to find within the menu, if in doubt check the TV's manual.

That should be it when you have the connections in place switch on your computer to see it on your TV.

So that you can switch between you computer monitor and TV without disconnecting anything you will need to buy a switch, available at most computer stores, but you can do without it.

You can go a step further and connect the audio from your Computer to you TV as well. To do this you will need a mini stereo plug/Jack to Phono lead (RCA composite audio). The mini stereo plug goes into the back of your PC and the Phono leads into the input of your TV. That is it you now have video and audio from your PC to your TV. If you would like the audio from your computer to go to both your TV and PC speakers then you will need a mini plug splitter.

What's the difference between using a DVI connector and a VGA connection? Which one do I need to use?

The manual is telling me I can use either one but I've not been able to get my monitor working since I first set up my computer. The manual tells me a little about each one but I'm still not sure what they are and which one is better. Help me Please!

dvi is a digital signal so i would use dvi right off the bat since its a cleaner signal and vga is analog so quality isnt as great. if your computer and your monitor have a port like the one at http://www.atmarkit.co.jp/fsys/cableconnect/05disp_video/03dvi_d-box-l.jpg then use a dvi monitor cable. if you dont then you need a vga monitor cable. of course your monitor still requires the power cable on either vga or dvi.
