Colouring the Data Centres Green
Data centres consume excessive power, especially during power fluctuation and load shedding. Therefore, data centres that are at the core of the Indian IT and telecom industries need to be checked for quality and efficiency of air-conditioning along with the power consumed.
Durgadutt Nedungadi, Director, HP India, states, “Conventional data centres have been the major power consumers in the IT industry. Power usage effectiveness for conventional data centres is around 35%, which means that 65% of the power consumed by a data centre is actually used to cool the equipment.”
SMEs in the Indian IT sector have begun to recognise the significance of green innovations such as green data centres. These devices are designed in energy-efficient manner to optimise their data storage, management and dissemination capacities. As Mr Nedungadi says, “A green data centre considers factors like power consumption and cooling right from the chip to the chiller. This loop includes components such as chips, system and rack. The ambient temperature is maintained through ‘smart’ air-conditioning.”
IT players streamlining costs
Previously, investment on power saving systems was not the major focus of various organisations in the IT sector. But in the current scenario, the electricity consumed by data centres is becoming an essential element of the IT mandate. Consequently, both SMEs and big players in India are becoming aware of the significance of power conservation.
“Electricity costs along with the availability of power are the two major issues that need serious consideration from both SMEs and larger players in India. Presently, green is the prime agenda, as the cost of power is very high and pollution levels are getting critical. Therefore, it will be apt to state that the development and adoption of energy efficient devices and processes will reduce costs and contribute towards the growth of the IT sector,” Mr Nedungadi adds.
“Green data centres are not only about conserving power but also about utilising resources optimally to improve business continuity and efficiencies. Efforts are being made for the development of indigenous data centres”, said Sanjay Motwani, Regional Manager, Raritan, India and Middle East.
Hence, green data centres can definitely provide for optimising power consumption and thereby streamline the costs incurred by SMEs in the IT and telecom domain.

I need some help with these questions i just don't get it.?
The Raritan Valley High School sold $1,498.76 worth of refreshments at last Friday night’s field hockey game. The booster club has determined they need to keep 1/6 of the sales but will donate the rest to the school. They plan to split the remaining money equally among the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes. While estimating the amount of money the booster club will keep, the president of the club rounded the fraction to 1/5
A.Why do you think the president rounded the fraction to 1/5 when estimating the amount of money the club will keep?
B.How much money will the booster club keep? Show all of your work.
C.Write one expression that will evaluate the amount of money the booster club will donate to each class. Estimate the answer. Suring each step, explain how you used estimation.
Sales are approx 1500. Taking a sixth doesn't leave a number that's easily divided by 4 (=the four classes). Taking a fifth however, leaves 1200, which easily divides in 300 per class.
$ 300 ( one fifth of 1500)
$ 300 per class. 1500 minus a fifth = 1200; 1200 divided by 4 is 300.
Sorry forgot the expression. Would be:
( 1500 * 0.8) / 4
