Acer Laptop?

A friend of mine is selling his laptop for $400 dollars and it is without Operating System; however, he said he has the license key for Vista and all I need to do is borrow someone's CD. The laptop is made by Acer and it is a 2007 model. Please let me know if this is worth it for its price, here are the specifications:

for $400 this is a very good computer. The only thing that I would be cautious about is the fact that it is acer.
The trouble with the low-end brands is that they appear on the market, sell a bunch of cheap computers (decent quality) and then get bought out by one of the giants (hp, ibm, toshiba, apple, etc.) The trouble with this is that 2-3 years from now, when they are no longer around and you need to service your machine, parts are no longer made, and there is no website to received updates or re-download drivers.
This means that if one day you get a virus and your computer needs to be formatted. You will need to get the drivers for all your software, however, this is VERY difficult if there is no website for this company anymore. You'll have to risk finding them from sources that are maybe not very trustworthy and this can lead to even bigger problems.

Overall, if you cant afford a big-brand-name laptop and you're looking for a machine that will last 2-3 years before you update I would buy this. But if you're looking for something to last a while, invest in the big-names and get something top-of-the-line.
I could not afford a new computer so I bought a used toshiba. I only paid $700 for a machine that sold for $2000 3 years ago and I still am yet to find a function it cannot perform.

as for the O/S if you have the validation key on the computer your copy is legal regardless of having the original CD. The key belongs to the computer so you can install vista with this key and receive validation as well as updates. UNLESS someone (your friends friend) has used this key to install their illegal windows. If you buy this computer, the key is yours, if you fail validation, you should be able to tell Microsoft you have the sticker and they will make sure it is validated. The person who might be using the key elsewhere is stealing, not you.
