The History
Although belt buckles turned widely best-selling in the early twentieth century, the creation of the first Western sterling silver buckles started out with the Mexican cowboys or what they would call as the vaqueros. They had deluxe silver spurs tacked onto a buckle, and these were the first unveiling of the buckles to the untamed Western Americans and the Texas Rangers as well. But if we actually trace back the olden cowboys, you would not see any of them with the classless leather belts. In fact, real cowboys who were actively riding the Wild West ranges had suspenders and buckles. These were necessitated from the friction buckles back then, which were utilized by the military. The Western movies were the ones who really popularized Western sterling silver buckles.
Collectible and Antique Buckles
Now you would see Western sterling silver buckles in the Texas state seal, in the Jack Daniels emblem, in oil derricks that have plain blueprints and with more involved and exquisite ones too. There are also buckles that now have grown highly rich collectible items like those that were worn during the art nouveau era in the 1900s. Buckles that were from better-known designers like Don Ellis, Al Pecetti, John Mccabe, Edward H. Bohlin, William Nelson, Michael Srour, Robert Schaezlin and Les Garica. These are celebrated groundbreaker makers in the industry, and their originations are now very notable collections. Others companies have also got down to ready their own collection of collector's items or from their particular edition designed buckles. Companies like Hesston that builds groundbreaking figures each year have updated innovations of the Western buckles that are also in stock for assembling like the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo buckles. Western sterling silver buckles with nationalistic conceptions, such as those that picture eagles, Confederate flags, and the patriotic U.S. flag or that of a cowboy riding the back of a bronco, are also representative collectible items.

How can I carve Psalm 127:1 on a 4ft 2x6 of Western Red Cedar?
I am refinish a deck and I want to carve/engrave Psalm 127:1 on to the top rail of the deck but I'm not sure where to start. I know cedar is not the best wood on which to carve, but it's what the rest of the deck is made of. Should this be carved or should it be engraved with a rotary tool? I have some wood working experience but not much carving/engraving experience, but I'm more than willing to learn.
Once I have the lettering carved, I plan of painting the lettering black then filling the void with a clear epoxy or sealer so that the surface will remain "unbroken". Can anyone recommend a good brand for this purpose?
After the surface is filled I plan on sanding the entire thing down to create a smooth surface with the letters seeming to be inset into the wood, then sealing the rest of the wood.
Any advice for this project would be appreciated.
I do have a dremel tool, but I'm not very good at creating smooth lines with it.
I would suggest the Dremel tool, but practice on something before you try it on the real thing. Draw the letters out with pencil first to get the spacing. That will give you something to go by too.
