My niece just got a refurb cptr. We just installed dsl on it. The next day she got viruses. we need help..?

It was fine when I set her up. She does a lot of Myspace. She keep getting all of these pop-ups. I ran the virus scan, it told us she has numerous trojan downloaders and viruses that is infecting her system. The only software she has for virus protection is the dsl (which I may not have completely set up all the way or security is too low) and she has the firewall protection on the system and an AVG 8.5 that is out date(from the previous user). What is the best way to clean up her system.

To stop the popups, go to Tools>Popup Blocker and turn it on.

Next thing to do with the viruses is to update the AVG software, or to get new software, run a scan, and remove the viruses. I recommend scanning your PC in safe mode (Start>Run>msconfig>Boot tab>Check safe mode or tap F8 at start up) That way the viruses won't be able to run. If the any of the viruses can't be removed by your anti-virus software, open the registry editor (Start>Run>regedit) and delete the value names from the registry.
