Windows 2000 recovery help?

Heres the deal, I recieved my dads older laptop he was given by his work. Right after my warrenty went out on it it decides to break. Now when I reboot my laptop it says:Disk I/0 error: Status = 00001000 windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Winntsystems32driversFastfat.sys and during this time is does a loud continous beeping noise Now I've talked to gateway the maker of the laptop and they have been saying I need the recovery disk which I do not have. Then I contacted Microsoft and they are absolutly NO help They just told me go back to gateway and complain. So I was curious if anyone has the files from a recovery disc for Windows 2000 that they can give me or a real tech support (thats free) that will help acually repair my problem and not send it off another direction. Or maybe even a place to get the recovery disk!!!!
I have NO recovery disk. Please do not say to use them because they are non-existant

Actually, you really do need to speak with the Tech Support from the manufacturer of that computer. It sounds like you have a hardware issue more than a software issue, even though it sounds like a software issue.

P.S. Based on your message to me, you will have to call Gateway (?) Tech Support back, tell them you want the issue "escalated to a higher tiered support person, a manager if necessary." Disk I/O error is not a fault of Windows or any other operating system. It's a hardware issue. It may be as simple as a loose cable connecting the hard drive to the motherboard or as challenging as a dying hard drive that will need to be replaced. Let me know if you need any further help. I'm posting on here with the hope that some people will search for their issue before posting to get help from an issue already addressed.
