How do I clone the MAC address from my old cable modem?
So I just bought a Motorola Surfboard cable modem and I want to clone the MAC address from my downstairs cable modem so that I can just use the new cable modem instead of the old one. I have no idea how to do go about this. I know this is possible after I googled it but no one gives a basic walk through for it.
Please help me!!!
Thanks!!
Sounds like it's going to depend on the specific model you have. For instance, the 5120 can supposedly be configured by going to it's web interface (usually http://192.168.100.1) > Advanced > MAC Address clone.
For models that aren't changeable from the web interface you'll have to TFTP a config file to the modem. It's not a trivial process but there's lots of info at sbhacker.net if you want to read up on the subject.
