Upgrade PCI with PCIE is it possible?

Well I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my motherboard from a PCI graphics thing, to a PCI Express graphics thing. Also what would be the best graphics card and best upgrade maybe under $150? I have a dell dim4600 Intel Pent 4 Windows XP. Im trying to run the game of spore and was hoping a new a better graphics card would speed up the game, and make it playable. Thanks.

I recomend replacing your motherboard. Just get the cheapest one you can find like a Jetway 945GC that is approximately $40. This is basic but will still include a PCI-E slot. You can get a FX8400GS that must be about $40 aswell. This is a 256Mb graphics card and will do fine.

I live in South Africa so i had rough price of 10 dollars to the South African rand but its actually 6 dollars to the rand. So prices above probably even cheaper. Thats about what I recommend. You can probably pick these things up at similar prices as your in the states
