Canon Imageclass D780 – Print/copy/fax Combo
Usually when we refer to a piece of hardware as a three in one unit we’re talking about a copy, print, and scan combination, but this older model, the Canon ImageCLASS D780, does not include a scanning element, and instead replaces it with a fax modem. It also gives the option of becoming a network printer with the help of additional hardware purchased separately.
When printing and copying letter sized documents, the Canon ImageCLASS D780 puts out up to 16 pages per minute, though when dealing in legal size speeds are slowed down slightly to a, still decent, 12 pages per minute. Also helping to move things along is a 30 sheet automatic document feederthat is critical when dealing with large copy loads or lengthy fax projects.
A large 500 sheet paper cassette is big enough for an entire ream of paper at once, and an additional100 sheet multipurpose tray expands the total paper capacity to 600 total sheets. The multipurpose tray can be adjusted for use with a variety of media types including transparencies, custom letterhead, and cards. Though, when working with paper types such as envelopes, the one hundred sheet total capacity will be drastically reduced, as the figure is adjusted for 20 lb letter sized paper.
Print resolution can be adjusted from a standard 600 x 600 dot per inch quality level all the way up to a shocking 2400 x 600 dots per inch. With quality levels running this high, this printer should have no problem going beyond simple texts into the realm of complex charts and graphs. Copy resolution, though not quite as high, is still better than average at 1200 x 600 dots per inch.
A cost effective toner saver mode can help reduce ink usage with very little visible loss to quality. Other copy features include memory collate and a 2 on 1 mode that involves taking advantage of the 50 % reduction capacity to reduce the size of two pages worth of hard data onto a single sheet. An enlargement mode is also implemented at a maximum degree of up to 200 % in single degree increments. Zooming can also be activated in convenient, preset amounts.
The included fax modem is a fast Super G3 33.6 kbps that can send and receive data at a rate of up to3 seconds per page. Like other resolutions the Canon ImageCLASS D780 offers, faxing is very high as well at 406 x 392 dots per inch. A transmission reception memory of 255 pages is an added bonus to help with larger incoming faxes and multiple faxes.
The Canon ImageCLASS D780’s footprint is nothing short of huge. With dimensions of 24.5″ x 17.4″ x 15.1″ (with attachments) and a curb weight of 52.9 pounds, this hardware is no mere desktop printer. Though this is an older unit by technology’s standards, if you can find one new you are entitled to Canon’s 3 year limited warranty, and 1 year on site service agreement, which takes the risk out of buying a veteran model such as the Canon imageCLASS D780, making it a possibly good buy.

Is an internal 56k PCI Data Fax Modem Wireless?
I have DSL and a wireless 802.11g router connected to my phone line. I am interested in purchasing a new computer with the above card. Can I wirelessly connect to my router with this card?
Without a part/model #, I would say NO.

This description sounds like an Analog Dial-Up modem.
