Experience the Best Ubuntu Smartphone with The Meizu Pro 5
If you haven’t heard of Meizu, the Chines smartphone developer, you wouldn’t be alone. However that is about to change thanks to their latest innovation; the Ubuntu powered smartphone Meizu Pro 5.
Ubuntu smartphones are still a very recent development and four of the Ububtu smartphones currently in existence were built by Meizu so Ubuntu still has some ground to make up in the Apple and Android ruled smartphone world.
Though the Meizu Pro 5 is a great step in the right direction. It uses the same processor chip as the Galaxy S6; the octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 processor. It also has a full HD 5.7inch display and 3/4GB of RAM completed with 32/64GB of internal storage. Throw in the 21.6MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and the fingerprint scanner and you have an incredible phone. The phone will be a big contender against phones like HTC 10, Galaxy S7 and even the latest LG G6 smartphone.
Unfortunately the price still isn’t known. It’s going to be revealed on the 22nd of February. You can expect it to be a bit cheaper than the Galaxy Samsung S6 however.
But what is Ubunto? Ubuntu is a free computer OS that has recently made its way in to the smartphone world thanks to Canonical. They want to deliver the same seamless experience Ubuntu powered computers have to phones. The interface on the phone is different to what you’d expect from iOS, Android and Windows smartphones. The key applications, for example, are highlighted thanks to the Ubuntu Scopes function.
There is some bad news however. The main piece of bad news is the crippled app store. Much like the Windows Phone the Ubuntu phone doesn’t have compatibility with every app right now. This may turn away some of you who are more used to having so many different app options. Though if the recent developments in Linux compatible games and programs has taught us anything it’s that Linux is on the rise. It’s just not there yet.
Meizu will offer a world-wide pre-order of the Pro 5 through their website soon.
