Here are some more information for Dvdrw Dvd: Converting an internal DVD drive to an external device is a relatively simple task for anyone who has a familiarity with basic hand tools. This project allows a user to add another drive to a small or fully optioned-out computer with no expansion bays remaining or for a desktop CPU that is located under a desk, where opening and closing the drive can be impractical. This task should take roughly 15 minutes to complete.take” Dell Inspiron 600m CDRW-DVD Combo ” for example:

How Do Convert An Internal Dvd Drive To External Device
1、Disassemble the external dvd drive enclosure by removing the screws per the manufacturer’s instructions. (Please note: This step will vary by manufacturer, make and model, but usually requires the removal of four screws from the bottom of the unit.)
2、Lift off the top cover.
3、Attach any mounting brackets to the side of the drive using the retention screws provided. (Please note: Disregard this step if no mounting brackets are required. This is a manufacturer-dependent step and may not apply to your enclosure.)
4、Lower the cable end of the DVD drive into the case close enough to connect the cables. (Typically, there will be a data cable, a power cable and an audio cable that need to be connected.)
5、Fit the drive into the base of the enclosure and secure it to the base with the retention screws that were provided with the external enclosure kit.
6、Place the top cover on the enclosure and secure it with the screws that were provided with the enclosure.
7、Connect the drive to your system and power if required.
8、Wait for a New Hardware Found dialogue box to appear. In most installations, this will require you to insert the manufacturer-supplied CD that contains the drivers for the device into your internal CD/DVD rom drive (as the external drive is not functioning yet) and click “OK.”
9、Remove the manufacturer’s driver CD from your internal CD/DVD drive and test your external drive.

DVDRW can't read DVD - Very inconsistent?!?
Im using Windows 2000Pro SP4. Just purchased a NEC ND 3530a DVDRW. After installing the Kazaa Lite Mega Codec (spyware free), Directx 9 runtime, and set Media Player Classic to play DVD, i inserted my DVD movie hoping that the DVDRW drive would pick it up but it doesnt. At least not consistently.
When i leave the DVD disc within the drive then reboot, then once in Windows then the drive (D:) is able to read it but if i reboot again without the disc in the drive then inserting after login, the drive is incapable of reading the DVD disc. A CDR is fine.
Any clues why this is occurring? I upgraded the firmware to v1.04c (i believe is the latest). Couldnt find any newer Windows drivers fior the device so using the ones built into Win2K. I;ve already tried removing the device from Dev Manager and rebooting but still same effect.
I have been having the same problem too. I am running Windows XP. I went through all the same steps as you did (update firmware, get codecs, DX9, changed ribbon cable, etc.). I even went ahead and bought a new CDRW/DVDRW drive....did not work...same problem.
I have boiled it down to 1 thing:
- Software problem. I am currently in the works of getting Vista. I will install the package and see if it recovers all the appropriate drivers and hardware installation files necessary to run the DVD player.
Lab tested: DVD ripping on the new iMacs
When we posted benchmark results of the new 3.06GHz Core i3 iMac and the new 21.5- and 27-inch 3.2GHz Core i3 iMacs, most of those results were in line with reasonable expectations. But there was one curious outlier: the HandBrake test scores.
