- Efficiency. Most generic PSUs are only 65% efficient. I prefer 80-Plus-Certified units that are 80%+ efficient (generates less waste heat).

- Amps on the +12V rail. CPUs and graphics cards today draw heavily on the +12V rails.

- Total power output matching. PSUs are most efficient when loaded to 60-75% capacity (least waste heat generated in proportion to power delivered). That's why it's absolutely stupid to use a 1000W PSU on a system config that draws just 200W.
