Basic question about transferring files from PC to PC?

I have two desktops sitting side by side sharing one monitor via KVM switch.Without getting complicated...I want to transfer files between the two with a cable.What type of cable do I need,and more importantly....I don't think I need to buy software because it is already on Vista's Network Sharing settings? Thanks.

you just need an ethernet crossover cable (not like a regular ethernet cable) available at your local compute store

...or you could network the two pc's with regular ethernet cables through your router...
