What is the fastest CPU for a desktop right now?

Maybe I should say what is the fastest CPU that AMD is making right now because I won't do Intel?

AM3 socket Phenom II X4 965, I believe. Ironically, the latest Intel processors are not only wicked expensive but clocked much slower than the Phenom 2s. It's always been a good idea to build with AMD, but right now you'd have to have a few screws loose to build with an i5/i7 from Intel. Either that, or you really REALLY hate having a fat wallet.
