CPU or Central Processing Unit
In most cases the choice that you have in desktop PCs with regards to the processor is Intel or AMD. The processor dictates the speed of the computer based on the number of cores that it has.
Memory or RAM
The latest memory unit that is now being used in all desktop PCs is called DDR3. The older DDR2 technology is only used in cheaper, budget desktop PCs. The amount of memory that you may need depends on what you intend to use the desktop PCs for. If you plan to play high end games or do some major multimedia graphic work you will need a memory that is higher than 4GB too. On the other hand, if you want to use only basic spreadsheet and document applications a 2GB memory may also prove to be enough.
Drives
Most desktop PCs use 7200rpm hard drives these days, though high end 10,000rpm hard drives are also available. At least a 500GB storage space is best. DVD burners are an essential part of all desktop PCs and Blu-ray is also becoming popular.
Monitor
Desktop PCs use LCD monitors now and the older CRT monitors are hardly used. Today the price of a 22-inch and a 19-inch is not much, making it the best choice for desktop PCs.
