What's The Difference Between A Palm Pre And A Pixi

The debut of the Palm Pixi came just months after the Pre was launched in a fiercely competitive market in a climate of price wars on all smartphones.  Why do we need yet another phone/PDA and from the same company?  What were Palm thinking?  The Pre now sells for around $79 from Amazon and Walmart.com and the Pixi for $24.99 and those prices may well continue a downward trend.

Which should you choose since they are both excellent and sexy smartphones/PDA’s?

Here are some key facts to consider in helping you make the right choice.

Who should buy a Pixi:

• If you are a student, price is probably key so go for the Pixi.  You get a great operating system, touch sensitive screen, web access, easy connectivity to social networking such as Facebook, and good multi-tasking as well as a decent camera.  The Pixi gathers all your friends and contacts together into one address book and automatically sorts out duplicate entries.  You can also buy one of the  “artist series” interchangeable backs to truly personalize your phone.  At under $25, there just isn’t a smartphone to match this deal!
• If you are looking to trade up from a Palm Centro, the Pixi is also a good choice for you since you are likely to want that qwerty keyboard (not found on an iPhone) and are used to the smaller screen.
• If you are a Blackberry user, the Pixi will give you a far better browsing experience and contact manager than what you are used to in the textual format on Blackberry.
• If you have never had a smartphone and don’t know if you should spend all that money, the Pixi is a no brainer at under $25!

Who should buy a Palm Pre:

• A Treo user should trade up to a Pre since you are likely to be a business user and want all the functionality to enhance your productivity at home or traveling.
• If you are already a smartphone user, the Pre will be a joy to use with its wonderful easy to use touch screen, true multi-tasking OS, wi-fi capability (which the Pixi does not have), and a faster processor.
• If you are an iPhone user and want that bigger screen but also want a Qwerty keyboard, the Pre has the slide out as well as the virtual keyboard.

Do you have to purchase mulit media pkgs. in order to use mp3 functions on cell phones? I'm looking into..

the Nokia 6102i & Sony Ericsson w300i or Nokia 6682. If I get a phone that is mp3 capable or fm radio, or walk man do I need to have mulit media pkgs. for these features to work? Can I just download music from my computer? Are there extra fees assessed when using FM radio? I have to go with Cingular (employee discount from hubby's work). FYI I only intend on the 39.99 plan with Cingular. Do you know if I must go to the Cingular store in order to use company code? I have seen better deals, as far as phones go, on other sites besides the Cingular site ex. Letstalk and Wirefly. I would get a better deal using one of those sites.

ok well first off your phone is not a smart phone and if that person researched cingular phones they woulda known that.. second you dont have to have a media package to do anything!!! all the media package does is make internet, text and multimedia messaging cheaper by bundling it!!!

being that all those phones are bluetooth i would suggest just bluetoothing all your songs from your comp to your phone and not using the data cable. You will find that the radio is not all its craked up to be on the phones as well and there is no media package needed for it either.

as far as using your husbands fan number to get the discount you cant use it unless the phone is in his name, if he is going to get the phone in his name for you then you can call and have it added through customer service, go into a store or even some agents (ask if they are a premier dealer 1st) can add the discount later for you. Again they are not supposed to let you use his discount though since you dont work there... but i wont say i havent done it for people or that I havent seen it done either.

also keep in mind the 39.99 plan is normally the worst plan for 99% of people.. only use it if you plan on talking less then 20 minutes per day before 9pm to non cingular people otherwise you are asking for a hurting.. you only have to go over your plan by 10% (45 minutes on that plan) to double your plan in overages.. and 85% of people are on the wrong plan!!!! I would suggest starting on the 59.99 plan for atleast the first month or 2 and seeing where you actually end up at.. again just my opinion and what my experience tells me!!!!
